Luca Gnecchi Ruscone is the founder and CEO of Italian handmade sunglasses brand LGR. The brand creates exclusive designer sunglasses that not only look beautiful but are handcrafted using the finest quality materials using traditional methods that haven’t changed since the 1960’s.
You won’t find cheap plastic lenses in these exclusive sunglasses, in fact the lenses are made using a hand operated pantograph and cutters, files and tumblers and although this style of production is a highly skilled and time consuming process, the finished product is elegant and beautiful. The lenses produced are similar to the lenses found in a camera and are impact resistant, anti scratch and fully UV protected to care for the eyes of the wearer.
Revered by a long list of celebrity clientele, LGR have carved a name like no other in the sunglasses market. Worn by Eva Herzigova, Daniel Craig, Brad Pitt and HRH the Duke of Sussex to name only a few. These elegant eye pieces can also be seen in popular culture on the big screen with Tom Cruise donning a pair in Mission Impossible Rogue Nation, helping to bring alive the character of action hero Ethan Hunt.
Investing in the quality of the frames and lenses is paramount for LGR sunglasses. The brand was borne in 2007 after a trip to Eritrea in Africa where Luca was inspired by a pair of classic Italian style Aviator sunglasses from the 1930’s . One of the first original models that LGR sunglasses created was based on these shades and is called Massawa. LGR went on to name future styles after different cities in Africa to pay tribute to Luca’s inspiration.
All LGR’s exquisitely made sunglasses comprise of flex hinges and cellulose acetate frames which are hand carved and also polished by hand in a process that goes through 3 different stages. As standard the crystal lenses combine an anti reflective coating, infrared and UV protection, polarisation treatment for sharper vision, colour enhancement treatment and photochromaisation, which allows lenses to become darker as sun exposure becomes more intense. In addition to this they are mineral tempered and anti - scratch. The LGR logo in neatly tucked away on the interior of the glasses. In short, the design and craftsmanship of the sunglasses screams quality without the need for a brazen logo on the outside of the frames or on the lense. Those who know, will know!
With care these sunglasses have been handmade to last, using sophisticated designs that transcend generations. They are durable, practical, flexible and of course, uber stylish.
