BACK FOR THE AW18 SEASON
Boris Bidjan Saberi takes his design inspiration from skate and hip hop urban culture and numerology. He combines these passions with his Germanic and Persian cultural heritage to create functional high fashion garments. His avant garde techniques have been influential in creating a fashion brand that pushes the boundaries of experimentation with fabrics and materials. Saberi creates clothing for those who appreciate quality but hate the bourgeois trappings of luxury. The brand is for those who pay attention to style but hate the vacuity of fashion.
Boris Bidjan Saberi designer profile
Boris Bidjan Saberi was born in Munich Germany on September 11th 1978. The heritage of his Persian father and German mother have had a cultural influence on his design style as he combines the western style traditions of Germany with Middle Eastern styles from Persia to create his fashion collections. Boris Bidjan Saberi has also interweaved his own passion urban culture and for numerology into his lines. In numerology the no.11 is a master number that endows spirituality, charisma and highly developed intuition. 11 is the symbolic trademark of the brand and of course the name of his signature line 11 by Boris Bidjan Saberi.
The world of fashion and clothing captured Saberi’s imagination from a young age and in his 20’s he began experimenting with customisation of pieces such as military clothing and vintage Levi jeans. As Saberi gained in skills and experience he moved onto making handmade leather items while he studied for his fashion degree in design and tailoring in Barcelona which he successfully achieved in 2006.
In 2007 Boris Bidjan Saberi established his label in Monistrol de Montserrat in Catalonia, Spain an area of outstanding beauty revered for its religious and spiritual history. The geographical location of his altier allowed him to immerse himself in an environment that would be central in the creation of his designs. He later moved his studio to Barcelona a city of culture and diversity that has been home to great artists such as Picasso, again allowing Saberi to absorb himself in the creativity of his surroundings.
A member of the Chambre masculine of the Federation Française de la Couture (the men's French federation of Couture) which governs the French fashion industry, and a staple of Paris Fashion Week, Boris Bidjan Saberi has become synonymous with high quality, wearable mens fashion. His collections are functional with his design process taking the aesthetics of the male human shape into account throughout the stages of creation. The finished products therefore not only meet the specifications expected of high fashion, but are also comfortable to wear. He maintains his connection to his urban and Middle Eastern roots and to his spirituality to actualise an instinctive range of bespoke tailored clothing.
Saberi’s style is experimental, some may compare his design methods to that of alchemy, as he fuses materials in unique ways to imagine truly authentic pieces. He has been known to combine fabrics such as leather, felt and cotton with acids, waxes, vinyl and tar, he approaches his art with a sense of wonder and it shows through in the uniqueness of his garments. The organic and inorganic materials that coexist within his pieces, with well thought out textures, layers and his edgy tailoring style have cemented Saberi as one of the most sought after menswear designer of our time.
The Boris Bidjan Saberi label has evolved from its humble beginning into a luxury fashion brand with celebrity endorsement from the likes of Brad pitt and Justin Bieber who have been spotted wearing his garments. The Saberi label is now not only known for clothing but for fragrances such as his vegetable tanned horse skin aftershave which has 11 ingredients in keeping with Saberi’s love of numerology.
