Buying at Paris Fashion Week

What is it like to be a buyer at Paris Fashion Week?

The Paris Men's Fashion Week FW19/20 is well underway, and the Allotment Store are there visiting with designers and browsing the showrooms for high fashion pieces for the Autumn Winter 19/20 season.

It might seem strange to some that it’s not even Spring yet and we’re already working on our AW collections for the colder months, however planning and preparation ensure that we get the best clothes in store and in time for our discerning clientele.

If you have ever wondered what it is like to be a buyer at a Fashion week, we have collated some insights from our trip to Paris last June where we were sourcing our SS19 collections.

As always menswear was high on our agenda, but as an Allotment Store first, we also took the steps to source some womenswear, as we have been inundated with requests from the fashion conscious ladies of Leeds and beyond who want access to high end designer labels.

Visting the designer showrooms

Our list of appointments included Paloffner, Masnada, Thom Krom, Isabel Benenato, Ann Demeulemeester, BBS and Dsquared2.

Paloffner was founded in 2013 by Sabina Pal and Nele Offner to offer gender neutral garments that aim to perfect the aesthetics of the ‘imperfect look’.

This was our first visit to their showroom. We had identified this label as a good fit for the Allotment Store, so we took the opportunity to view their stock and we loved the items they had on display.

Masnada is an Italian label that offers sophisticated and elegant tailoring. When we visit a showroom we peruse what is on offer whilst keeping our client base at the forefront of our thinking to make sure we chose garments that are in keeping with what we know they like.

After visting the Masnada showroom we are pleased to announce that will be stocking this brand for SS19

Here is Sol carefully working through the clothes to find the right pieces.

After some time working through the stock its time to sit down and start the buying process negotiations.

The next stop was Thom Krom where we were introduced to their womenswear collections. We had the benefit of being shown the pieces we were interested in by a model who was in the showroom. This really helped to give a feel of how the clothes look in situ and is a useful part of the buying process.

We spotted this gorgeous black Thom Krom dress that is has been crafted using linen and silk.

The back has a revealing low back with tie detailing. We liked this dress, not only for the beautiful design and quality workmanship, but because it can be dressed down with boots (like the model is wearing) or dressed up with heels and some minimal jewellery as an evening look. It is a functional, stylish dress that we are sure our clientele will love.

We visited the Isabel Benenato showroom where we put orders in for both mens and womenswear collections for SS19. Here is Sol in front of some of Benenato’s signature chunky trainers.

The ever popular Ann Demeulemeester showroom was heaving with sales staff, buyers and models, and we are super excited to share with you the purchase we have made that will be in the store this Spring

As one of a handful of Boris Bidjan Saberi Stockists in the UK we had to make sure BBS was on our appointment list. We took advantage of seeing the clothing worn by a model in the showroom so we could take full advantage of seeing the clothing in situ, before deciding which items from the BBS range would be gracing the Allotment Store this Spring.

Here you can see a model wearing 11 by BBS. After the success of the BBS Bamba 2 high top sneakers we had in store last season we were really keen to see the new trainer designs that Bidjeri had in his collection for SS19.

Our last stop was Dsquared2, who will be new to the Allotment Store this SS19. We have sourced some fabulous high fashion pieces from this uber popular designer brand.

The SS19 stock will be in store and online very soon for all the fashion forward who can’t wait to make a purchase. We are really looking forward to sharing the full range with you and we will keep you updated as items become available.
